Does a sports gene exist?

Does a sports gene exist? There is no scientific evidence to suggest that it does. However, it is possible that a small minority of athletes are born predisposed for sports success with longer legs, longer arms, more height, less height, etc. than others which give them an advantage in athletic achievement. This makes sense and could explain how a person could be born to run faster than someone else. A smaller person could be better shaped to achieve greatness in gymnastics. A tall person could excel in games like volleyball or basketball. But this does not mean a person is born an excellent athlete, rather the person is predisposed to potential success.

Of course success breeds motivation and determination, but it could be that the athlete is born to love sports. This does not mean they are “born for greatness” or better than others; it means that their passion leads them to do great things because of this innate feeling towards sport.

The other side of sports success however is hard work and determination which anyone can possess so even without the perfect body for a particular sport, an athlete can excel through determination and hard work of training to reach their greatness.

Is there a sports gene? No, but some people are born with the right body type for their sport of choice and only hard work and determination can lead them to greatness.
